Crafty Thursday: Embroidered Stockings

I make no secret of this, and for those of you who don't already know, I am completely IN LOVE with Heidi Swapp, her products are fabulous and I spend most of my nights just watching her craft tutorials on My Craft Channel until I fall asleep. She's inspired me in so many ways to create and try new things, I just can't get enough, certainly my pockets could use a break, but I am beyond happy.

Another love of mine, is script font, I love script font, when I was younger I'd spend hours perfecting my letters, I was taught how to properly write scripted letters and numbers, and ever since then, I fell in love with it.

Combine those two factors and the holiday season, and I'm looking all over trying to decide what to create because I'm fall asleep inspired and wake up just the same. Plus, Heidi is challenging me EVERY day during the month of December with her #heidiholidayfotofind, yesterdays challenge?

Hence the challenge of my creativity, not just in photography, but documenting and creativity was born!

With a few materials, this inexpensive project makes a simple $1 stocking look elegant.

Now I'm not keen on proper embroidery lingo, I'm not a professional, but I sure can stitch, so I start by tying a knot into the longer end of my string and from the inside of the stocking I pull it through and then back down again along the line of my design.

Then, I poke the need back up through a little in advance and back-stitch it and follow the forward in advance technique I created for myself, along the design of the letter, that I free handed on with my new FAVORITE pen, the retractable Frixon pen.

Sorry, smarty pants forgot to try to get a close up of this fabulous technique. LOL!

I really had a lot of fun with it, I'm thinking I might add some sequins or something to amp it up a bit, because I LOVE THINGS that sparkle and glitter!

I was only able to get through 3 last night, hopefully I can get through the last 4 before I hit the sack tonight, but Heidi is challenging me to share my tree today...

With the exception of the star, we haven't even decorated it yet. How in the world can I document that?

Do you craft for the holidays? What are you crafting today?

Until Next Time,

  1. Adorable - what a great way to make them personal. I actually cross-stitched all of our stockings and that took a loooong time. Now my son told me he wants a bigger one...WHATEVER!! ha/ha Great post Rose - pinned & tweeted!

  2. I love it! I have some of those $1 stockings that I bought after the fire and was thinking I should get some better ones, but why buy new ones when I can just make the ones I have better! Definitely add those sequins and glitter ;) Pinned and Tweeted!
